Be the Kingdom Sunday
Since its beginning in 2016, Be the Kingdom Sunday (BTKS) has been a meaningful expression of Calvary’s commitment to mission, outreach, and compassionate service. BTKS is a special Sunday that combines worship with hands-on outreach and has become a beloved tradition within the congregation.
The very first BTKS, held on April 3, 2016, was such a success that a second event was organized later that same year. From the beginning, projects like “Chop & Chat” and the preparation of hygiene kits reflected Calvary’s desire to care for neighbors both near and far through practical acts of kindness.
Over the years, BTKS has continued to grow and evolve. In 2019, more than 50 volunteers participated in projects that prepared soup for those recovering from illness and assembled hundreds of hygiene kits for distribution. After pausing during COVID, outreach activities resumed in a smaller format through a “mini” Be the Kingdom project in 2022 that included soup preparation, hygiene kit assembly, and church cleaning efforts. These same projects returned in 2026 as we relaunched this special, community-focused outreach mission.
This year’s BTKS continued that spirit of service.
BTKS reminds us that ministry happens not only in worship, but also through service, compassion, and community. Whether preparing soup, packing hygiene kits, or caring for church facilities, every volunteer embodied Christ’s call to “be the kingdom” in the world around us.
We are grateful for all who continued this tradition of service, and we look forward to another meaningful Be the Kingdom Sunday in 2027.

“Chop & Chat”
Led by Glenn Fahrig, Jane Kerr, and other volunteers in our Fellowship Hall, volunteers prepared ingredients for approximately 30 chicken soup freezer bags to be shared with those who are ill, grieving, or in need of comfort. Twelve volunteers spent several hours chopping, assembling, and sharing fellowship while supporting this caring ministry that has been part of BTKS since the very beginning.

Preparing Kits for the Homeless
Led by Sharon Brumleve, Margaret Yeboah, and other volunteers in and the Choir Room, volunteers assembled 100 hygiene kits for distribution through United Community and locally to those in need that stop by the church. Each kit includes essential personal care items such as soap, toothpaste, bandages, towels, and rain ponchos. Twenty volunteers worked together in an assembly-line style to provide supplies and dignity to neighbors experiencing homelessness. This project has also been a cornerstone of BTKS since 2016.

Table Cleaning Project
Led by David Noel, Charles Frempong, and other volunteers in Fellowship Hall, volunteers spent time scrubbing and cleaning fellowship hall tables to help maintain and care for our shared church spaces. Suggested by Debbie Noel, this project reflected the spirit of stewardship and hospitality that defines Be the Kingdom Sunday.

Red Wagon Food Drive
Collection for United Community
Every Sunday, Calvary Presbyterian collects food for the United Community food pantry. In 2025 we donated more than 1,000 pounds to help community members facing food shortages.
